Using Our Greatest Weapon

In the month of October, The Heart of Teens went through Ephesians 6:10-17, discussing the various parts of the armor of God. However, we did not include verse 18, which runs as follows:

“…praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…”

Prayer is one of our greatest weapons in this spiritual war. It is our connection to the greatest ally that we have in this battle. It is, in a partial way, the way of receiving guidance from our commanding officer. It is also the way that we combat the tactics of the devil. We didn’t include prayer in our “Armor of God” series so that we would be able to spend an entire month talking about it. Prayer is SO important in the life of a Christian. It is discussed extensively all throughout Scripture and is emphasized as one of the most essential components to the Christian walk. The following are a few things that Scripture has said about prayer (some of these will be discussed in detail in the articles to follow).

Pray Continually

Romans 12:12 – “[Continue] steadfastly in prayer…”

Ephesians 1:16 – “[I] do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers…”

Ephesians 6:18 – “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints…”

Colossians 4:2 – “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving…”

1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “Pray without ceasing…”

2 Thessalonians 1:11 – “Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power.”

1 Timothy 2:8 – “I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting…”

Pray Worshipfully

1 Corinthians 14:15 – “I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.”

Jude 20 – “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…”

Pray Specifically

Philippians 4:6 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God…”

James 5:13 – “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.”

James 5:16 – “Pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

1 John 5:14 – “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

3 John 1:2 – “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

Hopefully this gives you a small taste of what we shall be talking about this month on The Heart of Teens. Check back in a few days for the next article—I guarantee that the Holy Spirit will convict you in some way of your need for improvement in the arena of your prayer life.
