This month has been both fun and challenging at the same time. Personally, I’ve noticed areas in my life where I really need to pick up the slack and start serving. I trust that you’ve recognized at least one way in which you can serve, whether in your home or in your church or wherever God gives you an opportunity. Just to refresh your memory (and if you haven’t read the articles for this month, now would be an opportune time to do that).
Servanthood: The Servant King- Travis kicked off the month by looking at the greatest servant ever: Jesus Christ. He is the model that we should be following in our servanthood (and in every aspect of our life). Travis writes: “If the King of kings and Lord of lords placed himself in the position of a servant all throughout his life, what are his expectations for his followers?
Matthew 20:26b-28 says, “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” If we want to be exalted in Heaven, he tells us that we must place ourselves in a position of servanthood while we are on earth.”
Refill at the Master’s Feet: Attitude in Serving- We are to be serving as if to the Lord and not to men. When we serve someone, we should be serving them as if it were God we were serving. Annesti writes: “Colossians 3:23 says: ‘And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.’ That verse right there tells us as Christians exactly where our hearts should be at.” Annesti also expresses in this post that we should be trusting in God’s guidance as to how we should serve, or we could end up with too much work and potentially burn out.
Serving Others- As Jesus gave his life on the cross for us, and we are to be following His example, we should be willing to give our lives for others. That’s the level of dedication we need to have to His duties. We have an amazing opportunity to be a part of God’s plan, and to serve is to allow God to use us in this awesome plan.
Servanthood is Worship- In mid-May, I wrote:
- When we love God, we naturally seek out ways to serve God and make Him happy.
- Servanthood = Worship
- Servanthood starts when you begin serving the people that God has placed around you.
How can I serve?- Scott recently wrote an article that focused on the practical application of what the Bible says about servanthood and came to the following conclusions:
- Find a servant’s heart.
- Find out how you can best serve.
- Find a local church to serve at.
- Serve; just do it.
I hope the articles put out by our team this month have challenged you and caused you to think about what should change in your life. As always, our prayer is that you will take steps to actually change your life, with the help of God. So much has been said this month about servanthood that I really don’t have much to add to it. There comes a point where one must simply stop talking about serving and get out there and do it. So go on. Off with you. Go serve the people around you.
(Check back in a few days for our new topic… I’m excited about this one!)
