Faith Like A Fire

“We wonder why we don’t have faith; the answer is, faith is confidence in the character of God and if we don’t know what kind of God God is, we can’t have faith.”
– A.W. Tozer

Unquestionable belief in God. This is how I described faith in a previous article of mine. It is absolute trust in God, something we cannot please God without. And there is a very specific key to having this kind of faith: to know the character of God.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40:28 ESV)

God is everlasting, immeasurable, unsearchable, boundless. He is unlimited, absolute, self-existent. He knows no degrees. Our God is an infinite God. In His grace and mercy, He is infinite. In His understanding, He is infinite. In His sovereignty, He is infinite. In every attribute, He is infinite. And our God does not just embody these attributes, He is them. He does not have grace, He is grace. He does not have love, He is love. He does not have righteousness, He is righteous.

A.W. Tozer says, “…an attribute is something God is, not something God has.” (The Attributes of God, Volume 1) This month, we are going to be exploring those attributes. We are going to be striving to grasp the concept of who God is, because only then can we have faith in Him. This is not to say that none of us have faith, but I believe that having a better understanding of our God will strengthen that faith. We cannot boldly proclaim Christ to this world with a weak faith, or with doubt seeded in our hearts. Instead, our faith must be a blazing wild fire. A raging, rapid-spreading flame.

I desperately want this kind of faith; and I am willing to persevere, to strive for it. Will you strive with me? Will you take the time this month, to learn and grow with us? To search an unsearchable God?

I am praying that, whoever you are, God would work in you and through you this month. I am praying that you would be challenged, encouraged, and inspired through this series. I am praying that you would fight back against the seeds of doubt growing in your heart and work towards strengthening your faith by discovering God’s character. I am praying that as you read, this month, about the attributes of our God, that you would fall even more in love with Him.

Are you ready?
