His mercies are new every morning, His compassions fail not…
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV)
I am grateful for new mornings, new notebooks. Fresh starts.
I have been rather discouraged at another soul-searching testimony time…especially when I feel so dry and speechless at so much; still so overwhelmed and lost in the season that took our breaths away in 2018.
So, there was no urge to enter 2019, no desire to start another year, never-mind another month or sometimes even another day.
So I am yet again writing this from a wounded spot. If you are over it by now, believe me I am also getting over this spot. Over the woundedness that transfigures completely.
But here we are. 2019.
I am grateful for new mornings that come after long, dark, and lonely nights. I am grateful to be able to regain some air when the sun shines through the clouds. I am grateful for another chance to be expectant for the Lord’s return.
There is faithfulness in the every day; sometimes we are just too crippled by the circumstances of our lives to be able to see it or to be able to look up. But the sun shines into dark places. More accurately, the SON shines on our lives whether or not we want a new season or whether or not we are able to look up. He is still faithful.
It is in the smaller things. It is in the bigger things.
I wonder some times what it would be like if we were to live our lives with the knowledge of God’s greatness…? When we stand on all God says about Himself and take all He says as the truths for our every-day lives. In Isaiah 40 we see how He measures the seas, weighs all the dust of the earth in scales, and knows every single star by name.
Do you realize what a great big God we serve? A God who moves mountains; a God who formed the seas, breathed the world into existence, and orchestrates the molecules that form life. And this great big God is interested in who you are, what you are busy with, and how you live your life. This great big God is in control of every new morning, in control of every new sunrise. Thus, dear child, pick up your weary head. Look to the SON.
Rise from the dust and trust the One who measures the heavens with the palms of His hands.
I am writing to you as much as to myself. And this rising doesn’t mean that you cannot still sit and be weary or disheartened, but may it be an encouragement. He makes new mornings for each one of you. He catches all your tears in a bottle and He holds your heart.
So look up child…see your Savior looking lovingly at you.
If all your new year’s resolutions are already falling apart, don’t worry – God is the God of new tomorrow’s and the one who wipes out the bad of yesterday’s. Let Him be the one to orchestrate what comes on your ‘new list’. New encouraging verses, new goals of seeking His face more. Let Him align your goals; and rest in that He is in control of your life-course.
So yes, His mercies are new for when we mess up, but His mercies are also new for when we cannot go on anymore. He knows.
“He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young.
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand,
Measured heaven with a span
And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure?
Weighed the mountains in scales
And the hills in a balance?
Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord,
Or as His counselor has taught Him?”
“To whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing.
Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my just claim is passed over by my God”?
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
– Isaiah 40:10-12; 25-31 (NKJV)
