The day that we trust Jesus Christ with our lives, our relationship with God begins to grow, because being right with God begins when we trust Jesus Christ. As believers, we grow in this relationship as we know more about God and understand how much He loves us.
Having a relationship with anyone, whether that be a spouse, sibling, boyfriend/girlfriend, or a friend, is a type of relationship that will last only as long as the time we have on this earth. This relationship that we can have with our Creator will last our life on this earth and our life after death. It is everlasting. God will never leave us, forget us, or ignore us. As Jesus was preparing to leave the disciples and return to the Father, He says this:
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:20b (ESV)
We speak with God through prayer, as well as through reading and listening to His Word. Being only in the Word is not going to further your relationship with God if you don’t talk to Him through prayer. Our communication with Him is a two-way street. Your relationship with God is not right until you listen to what He is saying to you and talk to Him through prayer and worship. Even a quick “you are good” after seeing a beautiful sunset or a “thank you” when He answers your prayer is a sign of worship to God and evidence that He hears you and loves you. He doesn’t ignore us, and He won’t leave us because of anything we may ask or say to Him.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” – James 4:8 (CSB)
God Loves Us
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
– Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV)
As Christians, our relationship with God also grows when we gather together, lift each other up, and grow in righteousness together. Showing love to one another comes from understanding the love that God shows to us.
“…because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” – 1 John 4:7-8 (CSB)
He gave His son to die in our place so that we could live. The love that God shows us is everlasting. He will never fail us, and we can always rely on Him to give us the answers we need. Having a relationship with someone who gave their son to die in our place is amazing! I hope that it encourages you to strive to spend more time with the God that gave everything to make you His.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you with his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV)
