1 Peter 1:3-5 says,
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, that is into an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you, who by Gods power are protected through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 says,
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
These verses are packed full of information for us to learn from. However, I just want to look at how it speaks of a new birth, the old being gone, and a new creation being born. This is more amazing than words could explain, but I am going to try.
As I begin, I want us all to remember that God is the creator of everything. He has made you and me. He has made everything in this earth. Some of my favorite things in His creation are my brothers and sisters in Christ, flowers, the clouds, the trees, and bodies of water. These are all miraculous things that God has made. God has power that no one else can ever reach.
Architectures and contractors are among the greatest creators in this world, as they create new building plans for houses and buildings all over the world and then make them a reality. This happens for houses of all kinds all the time. When an old house is torn down, a new is created by an architecture and then built by a contractor.
Think of that old house that must be torn down – it has no foundation, it is full of mold, old food, furniture that is falling apart, and ragged old blankets. We are those houses before we find Christ. We are the old houses that are falling apart inside and out. We focus on our selves only, and because we have no foundation, we fall to pieces. We make dreams and plans that on our own we cannot reach. But these houses – you and I – have the chance to be torn down and rebuilt.
After that old house is torn down there is a new house created in its place. The foundation is strong and sturdy, the walls are glorious colors, there are fresh juicy fruits, with fine clothes and bedding throughout. The house is completely transformed from old to new.
This is what happens to us when we come to Christ. Through God’s amazing mercy that he shows us, he helps us to break down that old house and build a whole new one its place. Our old selves, full of sin and selfishness with no care for God, can be changed into a whole new person. We can become focused on God and fight off sin with the help of His power.
This changes us in so many ways. It changes who we are as a whole. It changes our purpose and how we live out our lives. It takes us and transforms every part of our lives. Just like the tearing down of the house changes it into a whole new place, we are transformed inside and out.
This, this is a miraculous thing! We can be completely transformed from old to brand new! This is what God wants for us. He wants us to come to Him, and ask for Him to change us and become made new in His power and amazing mercy.
