The Importance of Reading Your Bible (Day 1)

In a 31-day habit challenge, there are so many things that could be talked about and to me, the greatest of these things is the habit of daily Bible reading.

The danger of NOT reading your Bible every single day is threefold and spiritually lethal.

You will not grow in spiritual maturity

Hebrews 5:12-13 says, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.”

This verse tells us simply that without exposure to the word, we will continue to be spiritual “babies”. Without God’s Word, we simply cannot grow spiritually.

You will not be effective in ministry

You will not be effective in ministry without growing in spiritual maturity and without the constant renewing strength that comes from reading God’s Word. We cannot serve unless we are reenergized by the Word of God. We cannot love unless we first drink the love of Christ through His sacrifice on the cross and through His Word.

You will burn out

Your walk with Christ is a marathon, not a sprint. And I want to leave you with a little taste of what is to come—your essentials for the race of faith.

Preparation: Before the race, we need to prepare for it. We then use that preparation as we go throughout the race. For Christians, this comes in the form of reading the Bible daily.

Food: Your source of strength and energy, which is found in prayer. Our source of strength in the trials of life comes from God, through prayer.

Training: This comes from experience—putting ourselves in situations in which we can serve and love and grow spiritually.

Encouragement: Those who cheer us on to the end, giving us “water” when we need it and telling us that we will make it.

These are the four things that we will be talking about this month and I am excited to see how God changes my life and yours.
