There are around seven billion people on Earth and 6.9% of them are teenagers.
6.9% may not sound like much to you, but it is over 22 million people. 22 million! Scientists say that humans are influenced most when they are between the ages of twelve and twenty. You, me, the rest of the blog team, and all of the young adults/teens in the world are moldable clay that is desperate for a design.
This month, we are going to look at the problems facing YOU and teens in general. The way that you react to and interact with the world around you and the trials and temptations that it offers will be a major factor in your design. This entire blog is devoted to ministering to teens and pointing them toward Christ Jesus, our precious Savior and in this month, we are going all-out in an effort to hopefully shed some light on the problems facing you readers. I encourage you to read every single article this month, if you can find the time to do so. This is not just for teens; adults face many of the trials that teens do, just in a different setting.
Regardless of what you might think, you are being molded by something, and I present a choice to you: will you allow the ways of the world to shape the way you think and act or will you give that job to the rightful Potter: God.
Jeremiah 18 consists of an illustration of the Potter and the clay, which I’m sure you’ve heard people reference. The potter is in his shop molding this beautiful vessel out of an ugly lump of clay, until suddenly…
“…the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.” – Jeremiah 18:4
Applying this to real life, what happens when our failures mar our souls? Does God say, “Ugh, I’ve had it with this clay! It won’t follow My will for it so I shall throw it out and not bother with it any longer”?
No, God takes us and reshapes us and continues to work on us. When we mess up, He simply selects a way to fix it and molds us into what He wishes for us. So, with the challenges that our writers put to you this month, don’t be discouraged if you fall short of accomplishing those challenges. Repent, ask for forgiveness, and pray for strength to fight temptation.
One more important thing to remember is that Satan is not simply trying to mold you; he’s trying to break and destroy you until you feel utterly worthless and guilt-ridden. Satan is the thief that attacks and tries to ruin you. If you have spent long enough allowing God to mold you, Satan won’t even have a fool’s hope to break you. God is your Protector, your Strength, your Deliverer… if you allow Him to be these things.
